Tragic Loss: Linda Loree Weburg Succumbs to Mesothelioma at 82

In a heartbreaking turn of events, Linda Loree Weburg, beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished community member, has passed away at the age of 82 after a courageous but brief battle with mesothelioma. Her departure on March 3, 2025, has left a profound void in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

A Life Spanning Generations

Linda, originally born as Linda Loree Allen on February 28, 1943, in the quaint town of Alma, Michigan, was the daughter of Nile Rasor Allen and Fern Agnes (Clark) Allen. Growing up as the second of four sisters on a family farm in Emerson Township, she learned the values of hard work and dedication, tending to crops and livestock alongside her sisters. Life on the farm was not just labor but also rich with camaraderie, and the “Allen girls” spent their childhoods driving tractors and caring for animals.

Linda’s education began in her local country school and culminated with her graduation from Ithaca High School in 1961, where she shone as a bright star in her community. With her talents, she played cornet in the IHS marching band and was hailed as both the Ithaca Homecoming Queen in 1960 and the Michigan Bean Queen in 1961, a title that granted her exciting adventures, including a memorable dancing experience with Bobby Burgess on the iconic Lawrence Welk Show.

The Heart of a Family

Following high school, Linda pursued secretarial studies at Central Michigan University and took a job as a secretary at Leonard Refinery in Alma. Her life took a beautiful turn when she met her future husband, George Weburg, through the Gratiot County 4-H program. Their romance blossomed as they dated throughout high school, eventually tying the knot on August 12, 1962, at the local Methodist Church in Ithaca.

Linda became the unwavering backbone of the family business, Weburg Farms, producing cash crops and livestock alongside George. The couple dedicated themselves to raising three children: Jennifer, Jeff, and Jamie. Their efforts were recognized when Weburg Farms was named the Gratiot County Farm Family of the Year twice, in 1989 and again in 2024, showcasing their commitment to agricultural excellence.

Community Engagement and Passions

Linda’s contributions extended beyond her family, as she became actively involved in various community organizations such as the Jaycees and Gratiot 4-H. A devoted member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wheeler, MI, she held numerous leadership roles and served as church secretary for more than 20 years. Her dedication showcased her love for her faith and her community.

Linda was also a passionate golfer and a loyal member of the Gratiot Country Club/The Fields since the 1970s. After officially becoming “snowbirds” in 2004, she and George enjoyed spending winters in Winter Haven, Florida, where they remained active in local church and social circles.

In addition to her community activities, Linda’s love for music shone through her participation in various choirs for over 50 years, including the choir at her church. She was also an avid quilter, contributing countless beautiful quilts to her family and engaging in quilting groups in both Michigan and Florida, further marking her artistic talents.

A Loving Legacy

Linda Weburg devoted her life to her family, attending numerous sporting events and performances for her children and grandchildren. She left behind her beloved husband George, three children, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as her sisters, Sharon, Connie, and Jane.

Linda’s services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church on March 15, 2025, with visitation available on March 14 and 15. In her memory, the family requests memorial donations be directed towards Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Gratiot Historical Museum.

Linda Loree Weburg’s legacy of love, community service, and family connections will forever be cherished, a testament to the indelible impact she made in the lives of so many.
